Culture is the way of life for a specific society. Some might say that as Americans our culture revolves around electronics and having the ability to transfer/learn information in a matter of milliseconds. While other cultures, let’s just say in Africa, go around the same culture or "way of life" that they have been doing for hundreds and hundreds of years.
Culture is the key into a group of people and I hope that this class can open up my eyes even wider to recognize this. I want to be able to see what makes a certain society/group of people live their life compared to the oh so wonderful "American way of life." I believe we as Americans have lost that special something we all once had.

Be careful- we're going to be taking a much more "modern" approach to cultural studies that a historical survey. While obviously we'll be talking about cultures that are different, we're more interested in the hows and whys of production and reception across global lines. We do discuss American culture's influence and reception, but we're not simply learning about it in contrast to non-American culture.
I really like the attitude that you are approaching this class with, I have to say that I agree with most of what you're saying!
