Culture Is as Culture Does

I took Cultural Studies because I changed my major to cultural studies. I am interested in international work, possibly aid or relief efforts; hopefully cultural studies is my way to get where I'm not sure I'm going.
Culture, for me, is a choice. I think individuals must embrace their culture, or a culture, for it to be theirs. I think a person's choice in music, dress, language, traditions are all part of their culture. I think that people generally choose their culture based on their family or friend's culture, people they know and/or respect. I think people change their cultures for the same reasons.
I think that culture can be demographic because of this. Generally, people who think alike live alike, though of course not always. The similarities maybe very small or vast, but these similarities are what make a culture.
But, this is just a theory. After a few weeks of class I maybe changing it.

I have to selfishly admit I hope you do change your views- but only because it's fun to gain a new perspective on things sometimes.

If culture is a choice, then how can it also be geographically based? We can't choose where we're born and in most cases where we grow up. Even if we reject all things McDonald's and Coca-Cola, isn't even that rejection part of our culture?
